To manage an instrument in Chronicle, begin by creating a record to represent it. You will need to give the instrument a name and specify its serial number. Instrument names can be anything you chose but here are a few ideas to help if you are stuck:
- Descriptive: "Apheresis Thawer", "Lab3 Freezer"
- Themed: Star wars characters, pop stars or famous scientists
- Associations: "Ice Man", "Hot Numbers"
Recommended
Record the date when the instrument next requires calibration or preventative maintenance in the "Next service date". Chronicle will send a reminder one month before to users who have subscribed to these alerts. See Subscribing to alerts. Chronicle will also indicate warnings on the instrument index page and in eSOPs if the service date expires without a service being performed.
You are free to change the name later, but once an instrument has been created, the serial number and device type cannot be altered. The form for Sepax and Sefia devices is slightly different, as these devices require a hostname to be entered. Please see the corresponding articles for further details on this: Sepax, Sefia.
