Try the following test to make sure the network connection provided for your VIA Freeze or VIA Thaw is ready to enable connection to Chronicle. For the test you need to use a PC or laptop computer that has not previously been set up on the network under test. If a customer provides a laptop for the test it may already be recognised on the customer's network and allowed to connect to the internet in a way that the GE instrument will not.
Wired connection
If you are connecting the instrument using a wired connection you will be plugging an RJ45 ethernet cable into the back of it like this one:
- Test the connection by disconnecting the cable from the instrument and plugging it into a PC/laptop instead. The other end of the ethernet cable should link the PC/laptop to your network.
- Ensure the PC/laptop cannot access the internet by any means other than the ethernet cable. i.e. shutdown WiFi and any mobile/cellular data connections.
- Open a browser on the laptop and attempt to access https://starter.chronicle.bio
The test is a PASS if you are able to access the Chronicle login page and sign in without any intermediate steps. If any pop up window appears before the Chronicle login page such as:
- A page asking you to accept certain terms and conditions for internet access
- A page asking you to login to a local service before granting internet access
Then the test is a FAIL.
WiFi connection
If you are connecting the instrument using a wireless connection you will be configuring it to connect to a named wireless network. The name of the network is called an SSID.
- Test the connection by connecting a PC/laptop to the same wireless network.
- Ensure the PC/laptop cannot access the internet by any means other than the WiFi connection. i.e. disconnect ethernet and shutdown any mobile/cellular data connections.
- Open a browser on the laptop and attempt to access https://starter.chronicle.bio
If you need to provide a password to Windows in order to connect to the network that is OK, the instrument will be able to supply this password. However, if after making the connection, you receive any kind of pop up window or your browser is redirected to a page like one of these:
- A page asking you to accept certain terms and conditions for internet access
- A page asking you to login to a local service before granting internet access
Then the test is a FAIL.
The test is a PASS if you are able to access the Chronicle login page and sign in without any intermediate steps.
